True Hope cast thank you so much for being with me for being with us today how are you what is going well
1:22
great to be here thanks be here and share with your audience about the powerful impact that life
1:28
coaching for kids is having on Children and Families around the world wonderfully I'm super excited to learn
1:33
more about that specifically and what and what that entails so why don't you just as an introduction let us know who
1:39
you are and what it is that you do absolutely so I'm Renee thornborough I'm the founder and CEO of Adventures in
1:44
wisdom and for gosh well over 10 years I've been leading a movement to bring life coaching and personal development
1:51
to children and for the past 10 years we've certified many hundreds of coaches in over 30 countries to become what we
1:58
call Certified wisdom coaches so they're helping kids develop mindset skills for self-esteem resilience confidence self
2:05
self leadership so they can handle those ups and downs of growing up and just go for it in life and be who they were
2:10
meant to be in the world and it's been just so amazing to support our coaches in creating a business that they love
2:16
while having such a positive impact in the world what is a wisdom coach
2:22
yeah so a wisdom coach is someone who is certified to use our story-based curriculum to help children develop
2:28
these mindset skills we really focus on kids between the ages of 6 through 12. so we want to reach them while they're
2:33
early help them develop these mindset skills they can use throughout middle school high school and even into their
2:39
adult years and what makes the curriculum so unique is that I use coaching stories and activities and
2:45
experiential activities to support children in developing these mindset skills and it just the curriculum the
2:51
way it guides our coaches and really provides engagement and safe space for our for children to be able to learn
2:58
these skills is just having such a positive impact on children well it sounds fantastic I mean I think
3:04
coaching in general is very very important I think we get to a certain age in our lives like maybe maybe our
3:11
late teens and then into our like you know young adult years where we believe that we know everything and we don't
3:18
need to develop and we don't need to you know further our progress you know like classic teenager ideas is that you know
3:23
I've got an answer for everything and you know I don't need to listen to my parents or listen to anybody so it's
3:29
interesting I think the whole personal development um whole realm is is vital to our like
3:35
Evolution as individuals um and I think it's just beautiful that we can go back to such early ages to
3:42
um develop these skills or redevelop these skills and just for you like why child specific coaching like this this
3:50
obviously hasn't just like been born overnight this is from an idea this is from a thought process it must be from experience so let us know how did this
3:57
how did this happen yeah well Simon when I discovered the world of personal development it was right out of college
4:02
so this was several decades ago I remember thinking to myself why didn't I learn this when I was a kid you know it
4:09
made no sense to me that the personal development world and now the life coaching World focuses on grown-ups when
4:15
those core thoughts and beliefs that shape who we are and what we think is possible for our lives or formed when
4:21
we're really young so when I discovered this this was kind of what planted the seed and then many years after that when
4:28
I had my own children I wanted to teach them these mindset skills but I couldn't find anything out there to help me help
4:34
them develop these skills now keep in mind this was 20 years ago you know there's things on how to get my kids to
4:40
behave a few things on character development but nothing on mindset development and that's when I started
4:46
writing stories my kids were probably four or five when I first started writing my my first stories and real
4:52
simple things but from there I kind of this Vision just grew I wanted to teach this to my own children but I had this
4:59
Vision to bring it to more children as well and then at the time at a very successful corporate career as vice
5:05
president of marketing for a company here in Austin and um you know I love what I did but I just
5:11
had this pool to do more work in the world and I just decided to go for it and I retired from my corporate job
5:17
fortunate enough to take a year off to write the curriculum and launched adventures in wisdom and that was back
5:23
in 2011 that we launched and we launched the coach certification program in 2013
5:28
and we've just been out there bringing this work to to children ever since and
5:34
I'm just so honored that so many coaches really trust us to help them do their work in the world because they're
5:40
getting amazing results with kids beautiful yeah I think that it's so important that as parents we have
5:47
we'll just have the idea of like how we want to how we want to raise our kids and what
5:52
we want what what types of skills we want to develop with them or instill within them because you know we can we
5:58
obviously have to walk the walk when it comes to how we expect our children to not necessarily behave but how they want
6:05
to like be in that be in their lives like what's their kind of self what's their um state of being I suppose like
6:13
I've thought about this for a long time even before I had kids like you you know you obviously want your kids to be happy and kind and all these
6:20
things but I think it's really clear to understand like how you really want them to to be and you can obviously help help
6:28
with that development and ultimately kids are going to kind of turn out who they're supposed to be I think like in
6:34
their own unique authentic way but leading that with like compassion and love and
6:40
um being empathetic and being confident is obviously huge but I wonder like in this in like a
6:47
school setting I I don't have any experience I mean I was a preschool teacher for many years in Sweden and it
6:52
wasn't really part of the curriculum I suppose in regards to like mindset and like personality and these
6:58
types of key traits that we would you know hold to be quite important as adults but we might not necessarily know
7:03
how to like breed them or develop them as kids do do you what do you think in
7:08
regards to your experience of the schools teaching and and um coaching kids with mindset like obviously you've
7:16
created this program so there has to have been a gap in the in the educational market for this so what's
7:22
your opinion in regards to like how schools approach what you're doing yeah well
7:27
I absolutely think it's the huge missing Lincoln children's education I mean if you think about it our kids spend
7:33
thousands of hours learning their ABCs their one two threes but they're not learning that one thing that has the
7:39
greatest impact on their lives and that's how to develop their mindset our mindset shapes everything from our
7:46
confidence to how we experience the world to what we believe is possible for ourselves and it supports Us in how we
7:53
perform academically in extracurriculars in our relationships at home and our relationships with family friends and
8:00
romantic later when you get get older and it's it's so powerful for children
8:05
when they it and empowering for children when they learn that they can choose how
8:11
they experience the events in their lives now of course this doesn't just happen overnight it's not just one
8:17
training it's one of the reasons why a coaching model is so critical is really supporting children and develop these
8:22
types of skills now the good news is in the United States we've seen more
8:27
schools adopt um social emotional learning programs and
8:33
curriculum so they're starting down that path you know growth mindset is a very
8:38
common term in the education space but it's you know it's it's such a minimum part of
8:44
what's happening academically and there's so much more that that needs to
8:50
be done but with the pressures that teachers and Educators have is across
8:55
the world you know we talk to Educators from around the world to focus on the academics and the test scores and and
9:01
making the making the getting the performance that they need academically that little time
9:08
is available before this type of work and you know quite frankly Simon a lot of teachers are not trained in this type
9:14
of thinking themselves and so it's it's one of the reasons why coaching is so
9:20
powerful and we have a lot of our coaches who are Educators who are school counselors especially since the pandemic
9:26
you know a lot of them are looking for ways to continue supporting children but want to leave the classroom and life
9:34
coaching for kids give them a very powerful way to continue helping children but yeah it's I'm seeing
9:40
movement there but there's such a long way to go it is definitely a Missing Link in education and is a huge mental
9:47
uh huge Missing Link in our children's mental health as well yeah I think just um just thinking back
9:53
to my own experience at school like I did not like school I loved the um hanging out with my friends for a
9:59
long periods of the time of the day and going out and playing football with my friends at lunchtime and stuff like that other than that I had no interest in any
10:06
of the subjects whatsoever honestly and um and I think mindset without question
10:12
would have come into that because I don't think I didn't go to school or go into a class or engage with a teacher or
10:19
a piece of history or a piece of math with any particular mindset you know it's literally just like I'm being like
10:26
told this information and because there's no like fundamental structure around how I'm going to take that
10:32
information in and what I'm going to do with it it's literally in one ear and out the other for me but now like I'm
10:37
absolutely fascinated with like ancient Egypt at the moment and I'm interested in astrology I'm interested in the stars
10:43
and symbolism and how this is like structured a whole world that's super fascinated with that because
10:50
I have I believe personally um cultivated my mindset to be skeptical
10:55
to be to ask questions and to be curious and to be open-minded to be very open to
11:01
being wrong and there's I didn't learn that as I didn't learn that until I was 34 35 really yeah and there's no reason
11:08
why we can't teach that to our kids especially to like question things and to um you know there are more than one
11:15
answer to a particular question usually like I think back to the the mathematical textbooks I used to get at
11:21
my school and the answers answers would all be in the back and there'd be one answer for every question or every
11:26
equation and it's just right thinking about that now and there's multiple ways to answer things whether that is mathematical or
11:33
whatever that might be uh it's just it's just interesting that we don't have that structure in like you
11:39
know the kind of the industrial model of school and education and it's obviously going to take a lot of time to help
11:46
um educate the teachers and create you know kind of like you know what you're what you're doing with wisdom coaching within the teacher curriculum setting
11:53
that's going to take a while to get into the universities and the curriculum to get into the classroom eventually I
11:59
really really truly hope it does because as you say like as a parent or as a
12:04
teacher or as a mentor as a coach and you are working with young young children if you don't have the mindset
12:10
of having a mindset you're not going to be able to instill or educate or um
12:16
breed confidence within you know trying to teach kids how to have a mindset around around kind of anything and you
12:21
spoke about um like focusing on like maybe math or history
12:28
in school that's only really going to engage like one part of your brain when
12:34
it's obviously wildly complicated um and if you're looking to create full brain development it makes sense that
12:40
you would have a mindset as your like fundamental basis for engaging in those different types of you know brain
12:46
communication and that you might have with information or with people or you know whatever that might be so
12:52
I'm absolutely loving the wisdom coaching it sounds absolutely awesome I'd love to know like what a typical
12:59
um what a typical coach how they work with a child they work
13:06
with the child and the parent is it one-on-one are they typically maybe like homeschooled have alternative education
13:13
or is it like an extracurricular apart from school but how does that how what's the common way that works yes a lot of
13:20
questions in there so we kind of paint the picture no that's that's great that's great so our wisdom coaches work
13:25
with children in multiple ways but the kind of the fundamental between all of them is that they're working live with
13:31
the child life could be in person could be online you know before covid most of
13:37
our coaches are working in person what they discovered after or during covid is that when they work online they
13:43
can reach children around the world and very effectively but you know coaching kids is very different than coaching
13:50
adults in that their a child's brain development or brain a child's brain
13:56
hasn't been fully developed so if you are familiar with the coaching models that are used with adults it really
14:03
heavily relies on questions to guide the coaching process well that requires full
14:09
frontal lobe development critical reasoning skills and even greater life experience from which to draw upon to
14:14
really be able to use this fundamentally just this questions model of coaching to
14:20
work kids don't have full frontal lobe development they don't have those critical reasoning skills developed and
14:26
so one of the reasons why we use coaching stories as our foundation for bringing life coaching to kids because
14:31
what the stories do is they help lay this Foundation of knowledge so that children can see how these Minds get set
14:37
skills are being used in certain situations that characters are facing and then the coaches use child-friendly
14:44
discussion questions to help the child relate that what's happening in the story and the characters the mindset
14:49
skills to their own lives and then we have another step in our process that has like activities a lot of my art
14:55
projects to really help them integrate these skills we call it the story coaching process so there's five steps
15:01
in this coaching process and it's very very effective way to work with children but our coaches work like I said
15:08
um online or in person live but they'll work most of them one-on-one some in
15:14
small groups some will do workshops to that are more training or information based but when it comes to True coaching
15:20
that really needs to be done more one-on-one or in the smaller groups as well and most of them it's outside of
15:27
school some of our coaches do after school programs with the vast majority it's outside of school
15:32
and what's the age group generally Focus we really focus
15:38
that's while they're young
15:44
challenges of maybe getting a bad grade or being left out or not making the
15:49
sports team or not performing well at a band concert or it was kind of these
15:54
disappointments in life right and helping them learn how to navigate these ups and downs of growing up while proactively also building their
16:00
confidence and their self-esteem and learning how to set and achieve their goals and then they can use these skills throughout you know high school and
16:08
Beyond but one thing that really surprised me so I mean about our work is
16:13
how many of our coaches use our work with teams and the fascinating thing is we all love stories because stories and
16:19
stories there's actually brain science behind why stories are so effective in the coaching process and it's because it
16:25
engages multiple areas of the brain and creates an experience and because we have an experience we learn the
16:32
situation we learn the stories and we learn the skills from the stories at a much deeper level and that enables the
16:40
children and even us grown-ups to remember how to tie back to the story so I mean
16:45
just to give you an example of that um core Concept in all of coaching is
16:51
Shifting our thinking so if you think about it events are neutral no matter what happens in the world it's neutral
16:58
depending on how and we as humans we Define what that event means based on how we think about it if we think about
17:04
it positively we have a positive experience of the event negative negative experience so an example for a
17:09
child is failing a test right so that's a neutral
17:15
event fail to test so a positive way of looking or a negative way of looking at is like failed the test I'm a failure
17:22
shifting your thinking to looking at it from a more positive perspective would be something like wow I failed the test
17:30
I better study harder next time or maybe I didn't study the right thing or maybe I can ask the teacher for extra credit
17:36
this puts the child back in control of the situation feeling more empowered about the situation and being able to
17:42
move forward with as a problem to solve and not as a judgment about themselves so as part of our story the way we teach
17:50
children about shifting their thinking we call it wearing your power goggles so you know we actually have art project
17:55
where they make their power goggles and it's part of practicing this skill we will give them different scenarios and
18:01
first they'll put on their victim goggles and they'll look at the situation and assign kind of negative
18:07
meanings to it and then we'll say what would this look like if you're wearing your power goggles then they look at the
18:13
situation from a more empowered point of view and this is such a powerful way to
18:20
work with children you know say well this look like if you're wearing your power goggles it's it's a great coaching
18:25
question for kids high schoolers even as grown-ups I I tell myself all the time
18:31
Renee put on your power goggles and you know move forward in this situation so you know that's just an example of of
18:37
how we use kind of coaching stories and our terminology to support children and
18:42
developing these skills I mean it makes total sense I mean I've got a one and a three year old that we're talking about kind of before we
18:48
went on here and they're both addicted to listening to stories and um this beautiful and wonderful and I I
18:54
quite um quite creative and I've got kind of a weird mind I suppose but I love making up stories like I'll usually ask them
19:00
what they want in their stories and make something absurd up which is a lot of fun for everybody
19:06
right and there's obviously a lot of benefits actually literally reading books and with images and stuff but I think that just making something up and
19:12
engaging with kids that way I can I can see that their their minds and their brain and their engagement is is very
19:18
different to to I don't know if they're just watching a TV show or something it's completely different like they actually engage
19:24
there they're present they're conscious and I mean stories are so stories are
19:30
an ingrained part of our you know biological evolution our identity as
19:36
human beings you know whether that was through drawing or music or dance you know telling stories especially from
19:42
like you know the stars and you know the mythical things that we've made up through through the generations
19:47
is clearly like our brain and our neurochemistry has evolved to listen to
19:52
stories to to engage different parts of our brain and quote wonderful wonderful
19:58
ways and it make complete sense that you would engage with children um with this coaching method in in a
20:05
different way than you would would add with adults I've not thought about it before until you said it so that's really really cool
20:11
yeah and sorry again just before you jump in I love the different lenses idea because I'm sure that not only to like
20:17
give children a different perspective to look at things and take a step back but I wonder like
20:23
how that works with like emotion or regulation because like even as like an adult I will see I will see the same
20:31
thing and whether I'm maybe angry or upset or I've got Rage or I'm calm and feel awesome I've literally got
20:37
different lenses on different glasses on looking at that situation and I'm going to see those things differently it's
20:43
going to change my chemistry in the different ways and the way I think and the way I feel and how I actually like
20:48
create kind of core neurological beliefs if I'm a constantly angry person I'm going to have like a lot of angry
20:54
beliefs about the world so that's a beautiful way of um engaging them and obviously kids love to play and that
21:01
type of that thing it's really cool how does the emotional regulation come into that particular like the the lens lens
21:06
thing you're talking about love that so because our our fee our thoughts create our feelings right but we're feeling
21:12
people I mean that are feeling beings and so what we teach children is we teach them to look for the grungies so
21:18
the grungies or whenever you're you're feeling off like that maybe you're feeling angry or frustrated and embarrassed or you know just off and
21:26
whenever they experience the grungies is a time to think okay what are the thoughts you know what
21:31
thoughts am I having we call it looking for the dragons and grungies and dragons are terms that we use in all of our
21:37
stories to support children and identify the emotional side of it and then the thought side of it and it gives them a
21:43
non-threatening way to talk about their feelings and their thoughts because most kids don't like to talk about being afraid or being embarrassed but they do
21:50
love talking about grungies and Dragons so that's the first thing is really noticing it and then noticing the
21:57
thoughts and of course for most children especially younger children if having a trusted grown-up to talk to about that
22:03
can help them shift their thinking if when children are really young and just getting started with coaching it can
22:08
take a little bit more time for them to to recognize because when you're emotional in that emotional state it's
22:15
important for us to calm down first in order for us to get back into our frontal lobes right and so one of the things that we always teach is you'll
22:21
put your hand on your heart and take five deep breaths because this will engage the parasympathetic nervous
22:27
system which will help calm down the body slow down the body and get us from our amygdala part of our brain back into
22:34
our frontal lobes so that we can relax calm down a little bit and then use our mindset skills to address that situation
22:41
believe me I get triggered too you know and it's just a matter of catching it and shifting
22:48
um we're just human beings all of us are going to be triggered at different levels it's a matter of practicing yeah
22:54
it sounds like a brilliant adaptation of maybe like CBT with that
22:59
retrospective look of like our behaviors and the thoughts that the sort of the feelings that have like create are going
23:05
to lead to those and then the thoughts that lead to the feelings like it sounds just beautiful and it sounds just like cultivated and created perfectly for you
23:13
know for young children who obviously have completely different brains to us and to expect children to
23:21
um use the same type of coaching or therapy that that an adult human brain would but it just makes absent that
23:27
makes no sense so I'm one I'm so so amazing that you're out there and you've got this philosophy and you've obviously worked at it so well and you've seen
23:33
that it works I I mean I've got a lot of homeschooling parents in my like Circle I don't know why I just I just do and it
23:40
sounds like that this would be an amazing program to help you know those those parents who might not have um
23:47
actual teaching experience and there's obviously amazing tools online in regards to what to actually teach kids
23:52
but how to do it and how to teach them to obviously have this this mindset around this new environment of learning
23:59
and this new type of information and the the new way that parents may be doing it it sounds like a have you had you've had
24:05
like kind of homeschoolers engage this this practice as well oh yeah absolutely
24:11
um and and to bring it to their like co-ops their home home schooling co-ops in order to to start teaching the
24:16
mindset work you know our coaches tend to come from the backgrounds of Education counseling therapy life
24:24
coaching and then parents grandparents volunteers or people already working with children who love personal
24:31
development and you'll practice personal development themselves and so absolutely when I first created this program Simon
24:38
I designed it as a home study program for parents to use with their own children so it's it's developed to guide
24:45
the child step by step through developing these skills we have a mentors guide that's got the background
24:50
information and coaching tips for the coach and then we have the children's Guy where you have the coaching stories
24:56
questions Act activities for the engagement as well and what the coach's
25:01
job or even the parents job is is really to provide that emotionally safe space to support the child and learning these
25:08
skills and applying it to their own lives you know without judgment that really is the most important thing and
25:13
for parents who don't want to be their own their child's coach they can team up with one of our coaches you know our
25:19
coaches aren't here to replace parents they're part of the children the child's team and supporting that child and
25:24
developing these skills and you know one of the things that you were that you had mentioned was you know about the kind of
25:31
the science behind this and one of the things that was really important to me when I put this together was to teach
25:36
children the brain science behind mindset skills and why they work and so we go into what the conscious mind and
25:41
subconscious mind are we talk about neural Pathways and how those are developed and why things skills such as
25:48
positive self-talk and affirmations and visualization are so important because we're rewiring the brain to view our
25:55
world in a certain way and you know other other things too we talk about the science of achievement
26:00
you know we don't say okay this is how to set achieve goals this is why we use this process to achieve our goals so
26:08
it's um it really is designed to help them see that hey I can be successful at this too and each we have 27 mindset
26:15
skills all taught through stories really designed to bring it to a child's level
26:21
so they can be successful with these skills yeah it blows my mind how we don't teach kids about
26:28
um our nervous system and our biology and that we have you know a parasympathetic nervous system and a
26:34
sympathetic nervous system how that's attached to our emotional state how that's attached to our lack of maybe eating specific nutrients or lack you
26:41
know maybe being dehydrated how like all these things Encompass our you know which nervous system is basically
26:48
primarily engaged and how you know that would just it just helps kid it would help I mean it helps adults explain a
26:55
whole lot about what they're doing but you know I've I've worked with hundreds of people with my nutrition practice in
27:00
regards to you know helping adults create solid
27:06
habitual change and it blows my mind in regards to when I help educate them in
27:12
regards to their nervous system and their biology and kind of how these things work and how like the brain and
27:17
the gut are so unbelievably interconnected a lot of people don't actually believe me when I talk to them about like how they're migraines or
27:23
their skin rashes might be affected by their you know what they're actually eating or what they're not eating so
27:28
we're doing a huge disservice in regards to actually teaching kids vitally important information about their own
27:35
bodies um and yeah we could talk about that for hours and hours absolutely good and
27:41
Simon I think part of the problem is so many grown-ups aren't aware of this either yeah you know I mean I've always
27:47
known about like nutrition and how important it is to our bodies but I
27:53
wasn't aware of the all the things about gut health until my daughter when she
27:58
was 14 developed an autoimmune disorder and it took a five different doctors in and out until we finally worked with a
28:07
um with the integrative Medicine specialist and we determined that it was that the
28:12
import that it was an autoimmune disorder but I mean we're testing for all kinds of things because I wasn't even wasn't even aware of what that was
28:19
all about so suddenly my mind expanded and I started learning about that as well so I think that's a big part of the
28:26
problem there's so many grown-ups don't and the parents out there they don't know about mindset they don't know about
28:32
what you're teaching and until we can really start
28:38
developing this base of knowledge across our children who are growing up to then teach it to their children it's going to
28:45
take a little while for us to shift this but at least we've got you know we have a big team of coaches out there that are
28:51
working on solving the problem and you've services like your podcast helping spread and educate parents and
28:58
people around the world is just that's how we we make a difference and start that ripple effect
29:05
yeah you're totally right in regards to so many adults are just completely unaware of you know that their their
29:12
biology um what they do and what they don't do how that affects it I mean we have you
29:18
know we have people in government we have people in charge of Health Services which is you know in Canada you know like the health Canada has the
29:25
responsibility of taking care of the health well if you believe that to be their goal but anyway uh like 330
29:31
million people they have to take care of the health and I look at the people in charge of that
29:36
and they don't look like healthy individuals they don't know what what they're doing how that affects their
29:43
bodies so there is like even from the top there is this miseducation misunderstanding of of how that works
29:51
and I wish like maybe one day we would have like you know holistic naturopaths or doctors or
29:56
whatever in those circles so they can actually like help filter that information down and completely change a paradigm but
30:02
um I've got a question in regards to this lack of mindset development that we
30:08
clearly have within our education system and within the home how do you think that affects us as
30:14
adults if we kind of miss out on that development well I think it's one of the reasons why
30:21
we see so many people who are frustrated who have like anger issues who feel who
30:29
don't feel very empowered in their lives I mean it just the beauty about personal development
30:35
work and mindset work is it really supports all of us in realizing that we have a choice into how we experience Our
30:42
Lives how we experience the situations and circumstances in our lives that we can choose whether we're going to let
30:48
those stop us from going for our goals or rise up and meet and exceed what's going on in order to achieve our goals
30:55
um it it our mindset shapes everything from our confidence self-esteem
31:01
like I said what we achieve our relationships I mean it just
31:06
I I mean there's so many people out there doing great work getting this
31:11
workout to grown-ups but we're still missing out with our kids and it just there's so much more that still needs to
31:18
be done yeah I think if you're not conscious about your mindset about anything you're
31:23
going to struggle to thrive in any area of your life relationships work
31:29
your spiritual side of your life you know you're going to seriously struggle because I I feel that the mindset is the
31:35
foundation to either catapult you and to do amazing things or to like keep you chained to your old habitual past where
31:43
you don't have a mindset and you're just kind of like just going through life and yeah this I'm just so glad we're having
31:50
this conversation because this is just like blow this is blowing my mind and I love it um I wanted to ask you about
31:57
um like the individuality of of the coaching so like I I hire a wisdom coach
32:03
to work with my six-year-old son um is that like process individualized or
32:11
is it like a kind of set curriculum that you go through I think you mentioned was it 27 like mindset skills exactly
32:18
um is that individual to the person does my child fill out a forms does the
32:23
parent fill out a form to give to the coach to then like create their program how does that work yeah so what most of
32:30
our coaches will do is they'll use an intake form we have two different forms one is designed for the parents one is
32:35
designed for the child and I don't know if you're familiar with the Wheel of Life in coaching
32:40
um we have one that's designed for children and it's designed to help them really think about different areas of their lives and how they feel about it
32:46
and what they would like to have different and then of course the same thing with the parents and from this
32:52
process and through conversations that the coaches will design a program for
32:57
the child um we do have we have what we call coaching package templates for our
33:04
coaches that are around certain Transformations such as building strong self-confidence building soaring
33:10
self-esteem developing resilience dealing with peer pressure so different categories so our coaches can start with
33:17
that type of package or they can mix and match and swap out and you know in and out skill books depending on what the
33:23
situation is and how what the parent and what the child wants to address as well so it depends on what the parent's
33:30
looking for sometimes parents will come to us and there's a specific situation that they're wanting to address you know right away and the
33:37
child may be wanting to dress so for example maybe the child is really shy and so they sit on the sidelines at the
33:43
playground they don't raise their hand in class they don't want to go to summer camp because they're afraid and so
33:48
they're wanting to build up confidence and break through this shyness in which case that's going to be one map on the
33:53
curriculum another parent might come to us because and and child because the
33:58
child wants to make the All-Star team and the soccer or the the baseball team say and so that's having a goal and it's
34:06
setting and achieving goals and develop your mindset around your self-talk and your affirmations and your visualization
34:12
and really how how do you manifest these goals and dreams that you have so
34:18
there's a lot of flexibility there and all of course at the foundation of all of this is the brain science and the uh
34:25
why the around why these mindset skills work because that really lays this foundation in which the all the skills
34:31
build upon apart from being aware of like mindset and how important that is as parents do
34:38
you think there are any other specific skills um that we maybe lack and that we could
34:44
we could um develop ourselves to kind of help help this process because obviously you know
34:51
a child working with a coach the parents are involved right they have to be it has to be you know you can work with a
34:56
coach an hour every day that's fine but then there's you know there's 23 other hours in the day where that child's at
35:04
home engaging with the parents so everyone needs to be kind of like on board with the adoption of this this um
35:09
this curriculum and this education pattern so what other skills are helpful for um parents to to adopt or develop to
35:18
you know help the the child with their with their goals yeah so
35:23
about this because and most of our coaches do involve the parents in fact for each one of the the skills that we
35:29
teach we have a wisdom for home take-home sheet that enables them to continue the conversation at home some
35:35
of our coaches will have one-on-one conversations with the parents in between sessions just to be able to kind of keep things going but for parents it
35:42
really is about developing ourselves what we find is that for those coaches who hire our
35:50
or those parents who hire our coaches for like one-on-one small group coaching they're into personal development
35:57
development work already so most of them are doing their own work and their own growth and it does help to to have that
36:03
at home and the coaching program helps give a common language that they can use at home example is grungies and Dragons
36:10
right um so I think that that's really really important um some of the times our coaches are
36:16
reaching children more in a workshop environment or maybe an after school program and maybe the parents won't be
36:21
as involved but at least they're starting to sprinkle the seeds of this knowledge around mindset skills and how
36:27
they can support them in their lives how is the idea I mean is is wisdom coach like the you know if I do the
36:34
program and I get the like accreditation that that's what it that's the it's wisdom coach right how has that been
36:40
um how has that been uh received by by the community I suppose well we've
36:47
got coaches in over 30 countries who've been using this work for over 10 years so it's you know across all different it's a secular program so it's across
36:54
all different cultures backgrounds Etc now we have some coaches who they niche
37:01
in say they're um their religious belief so we may have someone who takes our
37:06
program and brings scripture in and has more of a Christian based or you know other other religions as well so there
37:13
is flexibility there for coaches to bring who they are into their coaching with children yeah I mean you obviously
37:20
hear like the diet coach health coach life coach wisdom coach just blows my mind that sounds super super cool I want
37:25
to know about that like I want more wisdom in my life so I think that's a beautiful term that you you've got that
37:31
you guys have put together there and what are some of the key things that
37:37
reduce a child's chance of obtaining their own self-esteem their own confidence and their resilience that we
37:43
that we kind of have now within our culture what are some can you rephrase the
37:48
question you said what are this yes certainly yes so like they're obviously there are obviously some things that
37:53
hold a lot of kids back okay yeah okay number one
37:59
I think self-talk I think self-talk is absolutely critical because it shapes how we view ourselves
38:06
how we view the circumstances in our lives because what we're telling ourselves about what's going on and even
38:11
what we achieve and create in our lives and in fact it's on our website we give
38:16
away a free story on how to develop positive self-talk because self-talk
38:21
it's we can choose every moment of every day we're saying something to ourselves
38:26
right either through our thoughts or through our words and these thoughts and words are either building us up or they're tearing us down so it's really
38:33
critical that children learn how to identify and shift negative self-talk so we teach them that skill and then how to
38:40
proactively build positive self-talk we teach them that as well all through a
38:45
coaching story and activities as well and the reason why positive self-talk is so important and we want to to teach
38:52
children how to practice this multiple times on a daily basis is because we want them to build the strong neural
38:58
Pathways in their mind about themselves that's empowering in this positive as well so positive self-talk that I mean
39:06
you you get that in place and that's going to help them build that strong self-confidence self-esteem to be more
39:12
resilient when they're facing those ups and downs of life and to go out and achieve their goals as well
39:18
I've had this um big question in my mind for about a week now in regards to
39:23
because I've worked with so many so many people in regards to primarily the typical client for me would be like a
39:29
middle-aged man that wants to lose weight and feel better and have them be more active because the habits that they
39:35
exhibited in their 20s and most of their 30s are not serving them anymore I mean classic case right but
39:41
unless they've had a disease a pathology that's been diagnosed or of death in the
39:48
family or a loved one that something's really like something big has happened to them there isn't the motivation
39:54
required to actually make the changes that's going to create a new person and you know change their lives and I've
40:01
been think I've had actually the last two podcasts I've I've had this this conversation idea bounce with my guests
40:08
in regards to like what's the what can we do to help people not suffer for so many years until that massive thing
40:14
happens and then they start to literally change their minds and start thinking differently I think what you're doing
40:19
here is is is is revolutionary in regards to helping kids change their mindset and it's also going
40:25
to help those parents do the same thing as well because inevitably if if a
40:31
parent is no um in a place where they want to spend
40:36
like their money their time and their energy and put their child through this coaching program they're clearly invested in the idea
40:43
and that's just wonderful and fantastic and I think that is seriously going to
40:48
help generations and generations of kids um be healthier without question and be
40:54
able to recognize when things that they are doing conscious or unconscious are just not serving them they're going to
41:01
be able to catch those things quicker and they're going to be able to think their way out of doing it and not have
41:06
to go through you know years decades of being unnecessarily in pain be that
41:13
psychological with something like depression or physically they're going to be able to you know reverse and you
41:20
know change their lives themselves and do it with their own Inner Strength In Their Own inner confidence and I think
41:25
that's just a powerful powerful place to be in as a young person like it's it's
41:31
your potential is absolutely like it's unlimited when you've got the a strong
41:37
mindset behind the majority of things that you do couldn't agree more
41:42
well on that note Renee um can you let us know how people can connect with you
41:47
can learn more about your incredible programs I've got about eight people in my mind right now that as soon as I
41:54
finish this podcast I'm sending them your website so where can people go fantastic well that's the best place to
41:59
start adventures in wisdom.com if someone is interested in being a coach
42:05
we have a tab there that says be a coach if you want to get a free coaching story there's a tab there it says free story
42:10
and if you're a parent and you're interested in maybe working with one of our coaches there's a tab there that says for parents and we have a form on
42:17
our website called connect with a coach a parent can just fill out what the situation is what they're looking for
42:22
coaching around and then submit that form and our coaches that have availability can connect with that
42:28
parent and see if there's a fit between them does each coach um
42:34
create their own prices is this quite an affordable coaching program all of our coaches have their own business and so
42:41
yes they create their own pricing and packages and of course they they within
42:47
they use our curriculum as part of that but some of our coaches Simon they bring other skill sets into what they're doing
42:53
we have some coaches that bring Equine Therapy into what they're doing some or yoga and relaxation meditation experts
43:02
as well and they'll bring that into their coaching so we have coaches that are doing all kinds of creative things
43:07
super super cool I love that thank you well Renee I really appreciate you coming on the show today I learned so
